Description
Selmer Paris made some outstanding instruments and this is one of them. It was probably made in the late 1950’s or early 1960’s. The pitch, tone, response, and intonation are excellent. Selmer Paris instruments are no longer made and are not at all like Selmer USA instruments that you can find now. The quality of these models is far superior to most and ranks at or near the level of top brands. This model of Selmer Paris was made to compete with Loree, and it shows.
It creates a complex, dark tone with excellent intonation, playing evenly across all octaves. The lower register is especially rich and resonant.
Brian Charles has cleaned, oiled, adjusted, and play-tested this instrument in our shop, ensuring it’s ready for performance. It will be fully play-tested, and adjusted again just before it goes out on trial to you.
Condition:
Body: The grenadilla wood body is in very good condition. There was a crack long ago and the two metal bands around the top joint were the way to repair that back in the day. We can’t find any evidence of a crack.
Keywork: The full conservatory, full plateau silver-plated keywork system is in clean, oiled, and fully adjusted condition. There is wear on the bumpers and some dents and scratches on the keywork.
Features:
- Left hand F
- F resonance key
- Banana (Gillet) key
- Both trill keys
Bocals:
Comes with what we think are two original bocals. There is some plating wear, but they’re both in good condition.
Case:
The original single hard shell case is in excellent condition for its age, and the modern shearling lined cover with shoulder strap is in excellent condition. A three reed case with two brand new reeds from an unknown source and a neck strap is included.
