Every certified pre-owned oboe or bassoon has been personally inspected, cleaned, adjusted, and play-tested in our Kingston, NY shop before being offered for sale. Our goal is for every instrument to arrive ready to play and honestly represented.
All certifications are performed in-house by Brian Charles, owner of Charles Double Reed Company — a double reed specialist with over 40 years of experience working with oboes and bassoons.
Each instrument is carefully examined, cleaned, and adjusted in our shop to ensure it is in excellent playing condition before shipment. The player can then evaluate its response, tone, and overall condition with full confidence.
Not necessarily. Certification means the instrument has been inspected and adjusted so it plays reliably. This may include pad work, cork replacement, regulation improvements, and other repairs. Full overhauls or restorations are noted separately in the listing when applicable.
Certification ensures that the instrument has been evaluated by an experienced double reed specialist before it ever reaches your hands.
Instruments offered through Charles Double Reed Company are examined and adjusted before they are shipped for trial.
In the very rare instance that we offer an instrument in “as-is” condition, that will be clearly noted in the listing.
Yes. All certified instruments are carefully prepared and play-tested in our shop before shipment and are expected to arrive in stable, reliable playing condition.
Because shipping exposes instruments to varying temperatures and humidity levels, minor adjustments are occasionally needed after arrival. If something does not seem right, simply contact us and we will help resolve the issue promptly.
