Vas Dias A=440 Eichentopf Model Baroque Oboe in Plumwood. #605

This new Vas Dias handmade plumwood instrument is pitched at A=440 for contemporary performance. This instrument is a faithful reproduction of a period Eichentopf instrument that Mr. Vas Dias measured in person. Included is a reed, handmade and tested on this instrument by Mr. Vas Dias, a care and maintenance sheet, and a fingering chart in Mr. Vas Dias’s own hand. It comes with a hand-sewn bag in a soft velour-type fabric, with a drawstring closure and two compartments to protect the instrument securely. The plumwood used in this instrument comes from a tree that stood for years in Mr. Vas Dias’s front yard. It fell during a storm decades ago and has since been properly aged for use in a few select instruments. Harry Vas Dias passed away this year at age 102, leaving behind a legacy that will shape the profession for generations. Brian Charles has personally examined and play-tested this instrument in our Kingston workshop. It will be checked over and fine-tuned once more just before it ships for trial, ensuring it arrives in optimal playing condition.
