Dr. Cody Hunter
Hunter Reed Maker

We’re honored to feature Hunter Reeds on our website. Dr. Cody Hunter graduated from the University of Wisconsin, University of Minnesota, and received his Doctor of musical arts in bassoon performance from the University of Memphis.

He currently serves on the music faculty at Stephen F. Austin State University as an Assistant Professor of bassoon and music theory. He performs with the Stone Fort Wind Quintet, comprised of faculty from the School of Music.

Previously, Cody has held positions at Mayville State University and North Dakota State University, as well as teaching 6-12 band for Hardy County Schools in Baker, WV. Cody has performed regionally, nationally, and internationally, with an upcoming performance tour with the Texas Chamber Winds in Rio de Janeiro.

As a reed maker, Cody credits his teachers: Dr. Patricia Holland, John Miller, Norbert Nielubowski, Lecolion Washington, and Anna Johansson. Each hand crafted reed starts from tube cane, where each stage of processing allows for the selecting of the best pieces of cane. Cody aims to create a reed that vibrates freely, yet is stable enough to perform in various settings.

Any reed not meeting the highest of standards does not make it to the final round, which means that Charles Double Reed Company only receives the best possible product.
