Try Before You Buy

Try An Instrument At Home Before You Commit To Buying It.

We’ll send almost any of the instruments on our site to you for a ten day trial. There are some conditions of course, but we aim to make it as easy as possible for you. We know you need a good sense of whether an instrument is right for you.

Can I Buy An Instrument From Your Site Right Away?

You can do that, too, if it’s in stock. Call us at (603) 356-9890 or email us at service@charlesmusic.com to find out if the instrument you have your eye on is available. Instruments go out on trial. If the one you want isn’t here, we’ll get you on the waiting list and let you know as soon as it’s ready to try, or purchased and no longer available.

  • If it is available, we’ll hold it for you while your [su_tooltip style=”light” position=”north” shadow=”yes” rounded=”yes” size=”1″ title=”Cashier’s Check” content=”A cashier’s check is a check guaranteed by a bank, drawn on the bank’s own funds and signed by a cashier. Cashier’s checks are treated as guaranteed funds because the bank, rather than the purchaser, is responsible for paying the amount. ” close=”yes”]cashier’s check[/su_tooltip] is on the way.
  • If it is not available, we’ll add you to the waiting list and contact you when it sells, or becomes available to you.

How Does It Work?

We ship instruments fully insured, on a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday (to insure fastest, safest delivery). You’ll have ten days from the date you receive it to test, play and compare the instrument. We highly recommend you plan to have a lesson or attend a rehearsal during the trial period.

We request payment in full by cashier’s check. Shipping charges can be paid by credit card. Your funds are safe. Our track record is long and very positive, and we’re happy to provide references. We don’t cash your check until you’ve made you decision. If you decide to return the instrument, your original check will be returned to you when the instrument arrives back here.

How Much Does It Cost?

The total cost of the instrument is required in advance in the form of a cashier’s check. We do not take credit cards for instrument trials. We’ll hold your cashier’s check as you try the instrument. If you decide to keep the instrument, the certified check will be deposited. If you decide to return the instrument to us, your original cashier’s check will be returned to you. Your only cost, if you decide to keep the instrument, will be the original shipping cost. If you decide to return the instrument, your cost is limited to the original and return shipping charges.

Why Don’t You Take Credit Cards For Trial Instruments?

We wish we could. Difficulties have been known to arise and we are serious about both your safety and the safety of our instruments. When you send a cashier’s check, it’s a guarantee that funds are available. We don’t cash your cashier’s check unless you decide to keep the instrument. If you return it, we return your original cashier’s check. We have a stellar 30+ year track record. We will gladly provide references to help assure you of our legitimacy and methods. If you live within driving distance or prefer not to send payment in advance, please visit us and try the instruments in person. We welcome many visitors every year from all around the world including all of the Americas, Australia, Africa, Asia, and Europe.

Will You Hold The Instrument Until I Get Payment Available?

Yes. We know that this is a major purchase and we’ll work with you to arrange a trial at your convenience. While we can not hold an instrument for months, we are very flexible. It may take you a week or two to arrange for funds to be available. We’ll be patient. Please communicate your expectations to us when you place an instrument on hold for a trial.

What Are My Responsibilities During The Trial?

Safe care of the instrument while it is in your possession. We recommend you contact your insurance company to let them know you will be trialing an expensive instrument. A temporary policy may cost very little, and give you added peace of mind. If you should decide to return the instrument to us, we require that you use the original box or a similar quality substitute.

How To Pack And Ship An Instrument

The instrument must be returned in a timely manner, fully insured and as well packed as you receive it. Instructions are provided on the packing slip/invoice you receive with the instrument. If the instrument is returned in a damaged state due to lack of adequate packing or misuse, we will subtract the cost of repair and hold your funds until the issue has been resolved. We’re glad to say that in all our 30+ years, this has never happened.

Do You Offer A Warranty?

Yes. We provide a one year repair warranty with new instruments and a three month repair warranty with used instruments. This covers normal wear and will cover minor adjustments of the mechanism, repair of the mechanism (parts extra), and minor crack repair. Your cost is limited to shipping charges and any necessary replacement parts.

In addition, new Fox instruments come with a service warranty from Fox which includes a thorough cleaning and adjustment at the conclusion of the first year of ownership. Contact FoxProducts.com for complete information on this service.

A Free Formal Appraisal With Every Instrument

We provide a lifetime insurance appraisal at no charge with every instrument purchased from us. You can receive it as a .pdf, or we can send will two physical copies with your paid receipt. One copy is for your records, the second is for your insurance company. A digital copy is kept on file at our office indefinitely, in case you should ever need to put in a claim, or research the value of your instrument. We will update the value of your instrument and send you a new appraisal at no charge for as long as you own the instrument.
