This silver-plated extra-wide thumb rest spreads the weight of your instrument over a wider portion of your thumb.
The screw holes in the thumb rest are an exact fit for Loree oboes and English horns. Unscrew the two screws from your current thumb rest and line up the screw holes. If they match up, use the included or original screws to attach the new thumb rest. If they do not line up, a general woodwind repair person can resize the thumbrest to fit your oboe, or add new screw holes.
The plastic base plate slightly widens your grip which helps relax your hand muscles. It’s contoured to fit the exterior of the oboe directly below the thumb rest. You can attach it non-permanently using double-faced tape, or permanently using the included silver-plated screws. Most players use tape at first and adjust the position to find what position offers the most benefit. Many players never use the screws, opting for tape. Many players use the thumb rest and never use the thumb plate. Lots of choices!
