Description
Hetman key oil is considered the best of the best. This synthetic lubricant is perfect for general maintenance on all oboe and bassoon family metalwork.
Hetman’s key oil is high penetrating, which means it will “wick” its way into the hinge tubes when you put a drop at the places where metal meets metal. Smooth, quick action requires regular maintenance. We use Hetman’s in our shop exclusively. has been formulated for instruments with close tolerance actions.
How to choose which thickness to use:
- Light – is great for newer instruments with little or no extra movement in the keywork. It is the thinnest of the Hetmans oils and it provides light, viscous lubrication.
- Medium – is the most often used, and is the all-around oil we use for almost all oboes, and many bassoons. It has a little more thickness than the light, but is very fluid and penetrating.
- Heavy – is best used for bassoon keywork, and instruments that have a loose ‘feel’ in the keywork. It is highly viscous, and can help quiet down noisy keywork.
These one ounce (30ml) bottles with precise needle applicator tip will last for years of average maintenance needs. These oils are non-toxic, and fully compatible with conventional petroleum-based oils. Made by Hetmans. Choose from Light, Medium or Heavy.
