Can the oboe play in a marching band?

Generally, it’s not a good idea. The small, pointed reed can cause damage to your mouth if you get jostled around while marching.

There is a lot of great music for oboe in band music, but most bands won’t allow the oboist to play when they get up to march. Often, oboists choose a different instrument for marching such as cymbals, glockenspiel, or carrying the flag.
