Brian Charles studied reed making with Harold Gomberg at the Juilliard School. His private reed making lessons with Ronald Roseman, Merrill Greenberg, and Henry Schumann also inform his style. He has spent many years adjusting and refining his reed making style and has combined his Tabuteau and Gomberg tradition with the classic American style scrape, a modified “V” shaped tip, ample heart, strong spine and well defined windows. He has been making double reeds professionally for over 35 years.
Each reed is hand made with select Charles pro cane, Charles pro staples, classic triple twist ff nylon, and 26 gauge brass wire. The proprietary shape of the cane is similar to the RDG-1 or Rigotti #1 shape. No fishskin, no leaks – guaranteed.
