These are the handmade reed holding bands that we produce in-house for our own reed cases.
They’re made from high density velvet/nylon which is water-resistant, slightly fuzzy/grippy and holds up through many years of use.
The size of the reed slots are suitable for bassoon, and baroque bassoon reeds. They have been time-tested – the right combination of grip and ease of removal so your reeds stay in place, but remain smooth to remove.
6″ overall length
8 reed slots
5″ from outer dimension of first to last reed slot
An additional 12″ of running velvet strip is included, to use in your case to provide bump protection.
You can cut them to length, to match the size of your case or situation. A scissors, x-acto knife, razor blade, or other basic cutting tool will work well.
To apply them, we recommend using 5 minute epoxy applied lightly and slight pressure until the glue sets. Crazy glue in the gel form can work, but does become brittle over time. Don’t use wood glue. We have heard of folks using double-faced tape, but have not tried that ourselves.
