I find beauty and comfort in both music and literature. I treasure the eponymously named play by Shakespeare and have loved Mark Helprin's magnificent novel since I read it a few decades ago.
They serve to remind me that as musicians, we tell stories about the world around us. Winter here in New England is frigidly lush and intense with small lulls of quiet and warmth.
I feel the intensity and warmth of the Vaughan-Williams Oboe Concerto (oboist Evelyn Rothwell) and the Saint-saëns Bassoon Sonata Op. 168 (bassoonist Sophie Dartigalongue) on my winter walks.
