Description

Substantially lowered price due to the need for the estate to finalize the sale of this instrument. Anyone that follows our used instruments knows that this is an extremely rare drop in price.

This classic Heckel bassoon, made in 1912, embodies the character of 6,000 series instruments with a similarly refined tone. It was owned and played for decades by a professional in New York City. We are selling it on behalf of his estate.

The maple wood body retains its original rich maroon-red finish, which is in remarkably good condition for an instrument that is 113 years old. There is no boot rot.

The silver-plated German keywork is clean, and oiled with typical plating wear in the usual contact areas. The ivory bell ring had a crack that has been filled and stabilized, as shown in the photos.

This bassoon is highly original: it does not have a high D key, rollers, or tone hole inserts. It has a right hand whisper key lock. The pads are in excellent condition throughout.

Included are a Heckel VCD #3 bocal and an unnamed #1 bocal, both in very good condition. The #1 bocal has a small dent, visible in the photos. A brand new ProTec integral case is also included.
