Temporary Pause on Instrument Trials and Sales
November 2025 – Mid-January 2026
We are temporarily unable to send instruments for trial or purchase while we move our entire shop from New Hampshire to Kingston, New York, just north of New York City. We apologize for the delay in service during this transition.
If you’d like to be notified when trials and sales resume, please email us with your name, contact information, and the instrument you’re interested in. We’ll reach out as soon as we’re ready to resume shipments. Thank you for your understanding and patience during this exciting move.
Here’s a fully restored, classic British oboe made in the 1960’s. It went to the Howarth workshop in London in 2017 for a complete overhaul and update.
It’s a “thumb plate” model popular in Europe. The key system is different than the “full conservatory, full plateau” American system. This instrument will be of interest to those who are used to this system, or interested in trying something new. It is not recommended for beginners or students who are not accustomed to this system.
Brian Charles has cleaned, oiled, adjusted, and play-tested this oboe in our shop, ensuring it’s ready for performance. It will be fully play-tested, and adjusted again just before it goes out on trial to you.
Condition:
Body: The grenadilla wood body is in excellent condition with no cracks.
Keywork: The thumb plate, open hole system is in clean, oiled, and fully adjusted condition. This instrument is an excellent example of the thumbplate system widely used in the EU. This is not a standard full conservatory, full plateau model, as used in the US.

- Thumb plate model

- Low Bb
- Both trill keys
- No side F

The Howarth hard shell case with matching shearling lined cover are in mint condition.
